Chaty Vallauris sun mirror designed by Gilbert Poillerat.
Trained at the Boulle school during the 1920s, Gilbert Poillerat developed a passion for working with iron and metal. Within a few years, he became known as one of the most important French wrought iron artists. In the 1940s, he conceived and designed a gilded metal mirror that captured the rays of the sun: the iconic Chaty Vallauris sunburst mirror was born.
In the 1940s and 50s, these sunburst mirrors were produced in the CHATY ironworks in the town of VALLAURIS in the Alpes Maritime.
Note the incredible metalwork: the spokes are made of bent metal and the mirror's outline is made of twisted metal.
